Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Previously published in three parts, this complete edition tells the story of Miles, a Vor leader on the planet Barrayar who foils a plot against his father, solves a murder, and thwarts an interstellar invasion as his alter-ego, Admiral Naismith.

Synopsis:

Being a Vor lord on the war-torn planet Barrayar wasn't easy. Being an officer in Barrayar's military wasn't easy. And being the leader of a force of spaceborne mercenaries while maintaining a secret identity wasn't easy--in fact it should have been impossible, to say nothing of being a capital offense on Barrayar. Not that impossibility or great danger ever noticeably slowed down young miles Vorkosigan--or his adventurous alter ego. Admiral Naismith.

Synopsis:

Dismissed from the Barrayaran Military Academy for his fragile bones, Miles Vorkosigan's natural leadership qualities quickly led to his off-handedly acquiring a fleet of 19 ships and 3000 troops, all loyal to him - or at least to his alter ego, Admiral Naismith. Then things got really interesting.

Somehow I had missed the Vorkosigan books by Bujold, and I corrected my gross error in one protacted bout of book gluttony, devouring every book in the series over the course of a couple of weeks. I do believe that I will now turn around and start them all over again. I want to be Miles Vorkosigan when I grow up - or well, perhaps I'd rather be his best friend (despite the likelihood of being drafted into mad schemes of all description) - being Miles sounds like one exhausting roller coaster ride! If you like adventure, excitement, battles, intrigue, spies, spaceships, space warfare, semi-alien but human culture studies, strong female characters, strong male characters, likeable characters, impeccably despicable characters, characters you love to hate, characters you love to love ... these are the books for you.

Read them all. Do it now.
