Synopses & Reviews
The history of photography began some 150 years ago, but only relatively recently has it been fully recognised as a medium in its own right. Cologne's Museum Ludwig is the first museum of contemporary art to devote a substantial section to international photography. The L. Fritz Gruber collection, one of the most important in Germany and one of the most representative anywhere in the world, constitutes the core of the museum's holdings.
This book features all the major photographers in alphabetical order from Richard Avedon to Piet Zwart, and includes biographical details and commentaries on the most important pictures an invaluable reference work for everyone, not only museum visitors. It is published under the auspices of the Museum Ludwig, Cologne, under the editorial supervision of Marc Scheps and Reinhold Misselbeck.
