Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

What to read next is every book lover's greatest dilemma. Nancy Pearl comes to the rescue with this wide-ranging and fun guide to the best reading new and old. Pearl, who inspired legions of litterateurs with "What If All (name the city) Read the Same Book," has devised 170 thematic reading lists that cater to every mood, occasion, and personality. These annotated lists cover such topics as mother-daughter relationships, science for nonscientists, mysteries of all stripes, African-American fiction from a female point of view, must-reads for kids, books on bicycling, "chick-lit," and many more. Pearl's enthusiasm and taste shine throughout in this lively and informative illustrated guide.

Review:

"Presented in eclectic categories of people, places and themes....Her notes are sprightly and concise." Publishers Weekly

Book News Annotation:

Seattle librarian Pearl lists and describes books she would recommend. The material is organized into some 175 thematic entries. Themes chosen are either arbitrary or whimsical, depending on one's point of view, with entries devoted to novels written by women named Alice, Cold War spy fiction, American history nonfiction, King Arthur, New York, and Zen Buddhism being a few examples.

Review:

"[Book Lust] is more than a reference resource for librarians in their readers'-advisory work. It is also a book for personal use by library patrons, and even a book to own and keep on one's reading stand." Booklist

Review:

"For the most part, these categories do not contain "expected" titles such as the 'classics,' heavily publicized works, or books made into TV movies; instead, they are individualistic recommendations from a voracious reader." Library Journal

Review:

"Book Lust is a frank, pleasant read...but the meat of the matter is the recommendations." New York Times

I love to have this book lying around the house, so I can pick it up for a moment and browse through a new category of recommendations. If you are ever in a bind about what to read next, this book will not let you down. The only decision to make is which one to read first. This is a very entertaining book for all book lovers.
