About the Author
Benoit Mandelbrot was born in Warsaw in 1924, moved with his family to France in 1936. A graduate of the Ecole Polytechnique, he obtained his doctorate from University of Paris, and spent over 35 years at IBM as a research scientist. Best known as the father of fractal geometry, his work transformed our understanding of information theory, economics, fluid turbulence, non linear dynamics, and seismology. One of a handful of twentieth century scientists whose work changed how we see the world that we live in. He died on October 14, 2010.
