Synopsis:
Simply put, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is a way to separate a document's structure from its presentation. The benefits of this can be quite profound: CSS allows a much richer document appearance than HTML and also saves time — you can create or change the appearance of an entire document in just one place; and its compact file size makes web pages load quickly.
CSS: The Definitive Guide, 3rd Edition, provides you with a comprehensive guide to CSS implementation, along with a thorough review of all aspects of CSS 2.1. Updated to cover Internet Explorer 7, Microsoft's vastly improved browser, this new edition includes content on positioning, lists and generated content, table layout, user interface, paged media, and more. Author Eric Meyer tackles the subject with passion, exploring in detail each individual CSS property and how it interacts with other properties. You'll not only learn how to avoid common mistakes in interpretation, you also will benefit from the depth and breadth of his experience and his clear and honest style. This is the complete sourcebook on CSS.
The 3rd edition contains: Updates to reflect changes in the latest draft version of CSS 2.1 Browser notes updated to reflect changes between IE6 and IE7 Advanced selectors supported in IE7 and other major browsers included A new round of technicaledits by a fresh set of editors Clarifications and corrected errata, including updated URLs of referenced online resources

This is an update so to speak on a previous comment and rating of 2. I would say 2 or 3 because of the section in the back (Property Reference) having no quick example lines. This would have been a perfect CSS manual with a simple quick example in Property References area. Double line spacing there? How about single line and only double space what the reader/user is interested in, put in one or two examples. The rest of the book is excellent, especially if you like to read indepth on a certain rule, selector (use ID or Class ) etc. One last thing while I'm thinking about it ... could have used PC FONT POPULAR LIST, PC's that have been touched with MS OFFICE (the majority of the PC world) and of course a relative Macintosh font set too!

Rate could be a 5 but format types in back of book have no examples. I imagine this is because of many pages being needed for printing purposes etc. That bunch of tripe copied from w3c is useless. Readers/users surf the web for css tips and examples but I can assure you they NEVER NEVER use wc3 as it has to much useless drivel text to get through when finding examples and one sentence statements on how to use or place it. All users get their info from geek sites and or private sites off the engines. We find a good one or two we bookmark and again!!!! it is not some form of w3c site that is bookmarked. Frankly w3c is not unlike government sites, I know, I have critiqued thier copy/text for Dept. of Education. Basically it is hard to navigate, very very slow for user to get info, and they are horrid as a quick read.
