Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

It has been written of Wendell Berry that one can hardly speak of him without the word "prophetic" coming to mind. One of our wisest and most clear-sighted thinkers, he has provoked — and inspired — millions of readers. Now, in eight essays penned at his Kentucky farmstead, he takes on important themes of the current social debate.

Wendell Berry consistently displays a clarity of thinking on the human relationship to the natural world that has rarely been seen since Thoreau. This collection of essays shines new light on aspects of our culture that are harming our ability to lead a good human life, and should be read by anyone who wants to speak intelligently on the problems of contemporary American culture.
